The actress is best known for the role of Angie, the landlady of the Queen Vic, in the long-running BBC soap EastEnders.
She has also enjoyed a limited career on the big screen in movies such as The Revengers' Comedies, The Tichbourne Claimant and the thriller Darkness Falls.
Primarily a TV actress, she made her small screen debut in 1979 in Leave Him To Heaven which she followed with the Jim Davidson comedy Up The Elephant and Round The Castle.
In 1985, she pulled her first pint in the Queen Vic and stayed behind the bar for the next three years.
Dobson's big screen debut was in the lame horror movie Beyond Bedlam alongside Elizabeth Hurley and Craig Fairbrass.
She followed this with the little seen Seaview Knights and The Revengers' Comedies with Sam Neill and Helena Bonham Carter.
She went on to have minor roles in The Tichbourne Claimant with Stephen Fry and Robert Hardy and Darkness Falls with Sherilyn Fenn and Ray Winstone.
In 2000, she married her long-term partner Brian May, the guitarist of Queen.
On stage, she enjoyed a stint in the hit musical Chicago, following in the footsteps of Ute Lemper, Ruthie Henshell, Gaby Roslin and Denise Van Outen.
Back on TV, she starred in Hearts and Bones and Urban Gothic before playing the mother of gangster Charlie Richardson in Charlie with Luke Goss.
