The seasoned TV director made his big screen debut with the hit comedy Naked Gun 33-1/3 with Leslie Nielsen.
From a farming back ground, he studied film at the University of Southern California and made his TV directorial with The Jackie Thomas Show.
With the success of Naked Gun, he went on to helm the 1995 comedy Tommy Gun with Chris Farley and My Fellow Americans, starring Jack Lemmon.
He also formed the production company, Greenhaven Films to produce a remake of The Incredible Shrinking Man, starring Eddie Murphy.
In 2000, he re-teamed with Eddie Murphy for Nutty Professor II: The Klumps and began his fruitful association with Adam Sandler with Anger Management.
Their subsequent working relationship spawned the comedy 50 First Dates and the remake of the 1974 sports comedy The Longest Yard, also starring Chris Rock.
