This tense and absorbing drama is set in Warsaw just after the Nazis killed 350,000 people. Rabbi Heller (Armin Mueller-Stahl), is in hiding with his daughter Rachel (Elina Lowensohn). But Rachel is summoned by the casually cruel Captain Richter (Charles Dance). The girls rape sets off a chain of events that Heller has no control over. Powerful performances from Mueller-Stahl and Dance lift what is a rather grim tale. Although it covers familiar ground, this film is still worth watching. FACT: A remake of Rod Serling's 1960 TV drama that gave a young Robert Redford one of his first acting breaks.
