The former variety show hostess has appeared in roles ranging from Jackie Chan's love interest in Rush Hour 2 to a ballet teacher in The Game Plan.
However, she quit the course after three years and - at the age of 21 - moved to New York where she took classes in dancing, acting and singing.
After returning to Puerto Rico, she made her big screen debut in the 1992 movie Captain Ron, starring Martin Short and Kurt Russell.
At the same time she was gaining fame as the dancer and co-host of the Puerto Rican variety show Que Vacilon as well as landing the beauty contest crown Miss Puerto Rico Petite.
In 1997 she landed roles in the American TV series As The World Turns and Fame LA and also appeared in the Jamie Foxx comedy Held Up.
Offscreen, she married British boxer-turned-actor Gary Stretch in 1998. The couple divorced in 2001.
She was subsequently cast as Isabella Molina, an undercover US Secret Service agent who was Jackie Chan's love interest in the hit movie Rush Hour 2.
Roles followed in the dismal 2002 comedy Boat Trip and duff thriller Basic and she also played the role of Lorena in the 2003 Latino crossover movie Chasing Papi starring alongside Jaci Velasquez and Sofia Vergara.
Roles followed in TV (Kojak) and on the big screen (Underclassman, Edison) and she was back in the public eye in the Dwayne Johnson comedy The Game Plan.
