The cast of this drama (with yet another pre-sold disco soundtrack) about an investigative reporter doing a smut story on aerobic clubs being the singles bar of the Eighties is so charismatic as to make you quite like a story of which you can hardly believe a word. John Travolta as the journalist does his best to carve a likeable centrepoint to the drama, although the screenplay hardly helps. And, if the whipcord Jamie Lee Curtis is on her best form, she is certainly given very tough competition by all three of the other femmes in the cast - Laraine Newman and Marilu Henner as ladies of the club and Anne de Salvo as Travolta's sometime photographer colleague. All three catch the exact essence of their characters - and Newman and Henner both convey the vulnerability behind the banter and pushiness behind the man-mad swingers they portray.
