The director is best known for the broad British comedy Kinky Boots.

A TV veteran, work has included Cracker, Silent Witness and Great Expectations.

He made his feature debut with the drama Fighting for Gemma in 1993 and went on to adapt Zadie Smith's White Teeth for TV.

In 2005, he made Kinky Boots starring Chiwitel Ejiofor as a drag queen who helps out a failing shoe company.
