It certainly is an interesting idea to set a murder investigation in Moscow, where the KGB convolutions run deeper than if the CIA were involved in the States. Three bodies are discovered in Gorky Park, buried in snow with their faces, fingerprints and teeth stripped away. Nevertheless, the city's chief investigator (William Hurt) soon gets on the scent of a conspiracy which predictably involves those in high places, although the workings of the plot remain absorbing and the ending is exhilaratingly right. Hurt is on the mark as the top cop, and Lee Marvin characteristically baccy-spittin'-forceful as a visiting American with an interest in sables. In a brief appearance, Alexei Sayle proves himself more interesting as a character actor than as a comedian, and Brian Dennehy is also solid as an American lawman whose brother was one of the three victims. Quite a good two hours' worth, although strung out too far. Don't expect a masterpiece and you'll enjoy it.
