Kate Winslet (in her screen debut) and Melanie Lynskey are amazing as two schoolgirls in 1954 New Zealand who plotted to kill the mother of one, in an effort to avoid being parted. This real-life crime drama is outstanding and Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson handles it highly imaginatively and judges the mood precisely. The Winslet character grew up to become best-selling crime novelist Anne Perry.
