Alas first-time writer-director Randall Wallace misses most of the chances for stirring cinema in Alexandre Dumas's classic yarn of 17th-century intrigue. Fresh off Titanic, Leonardo DiCaprio does well enough as both the cruel French king Louis XIV and his nice twin Philippe, but Gabriel Byrne's uneasy as D'Artagnan and John Malkovich's fey as Athos.
