Newly married Helen (Gwyneth Paltrow) and hubbie Jackson (Johnathon Schaech) move into an idyllic home with his mother Martha (Jessica Lange), who appears pleasant, if a little domineering. But when Helen becomes pregnant, manipulative Martha reveals more than a few screws loose, in this far fetched psycho-thriller with an ending that's all too neatly tied up - although there are a few nasty shocks along the way. The main interest is in seeing the two big Hollywood stars in the leads - but these are implausible characters in a contrived story, and anyone could've played the roles.
