Sinead Cusack plays Frank, alias Frances, devout Catholic widow and mother of two in this lop-sided Australian film that plays more like a TV movie for the most part. Told to get a life by her son, David (Matthew Newton), Frank enrols at the same university as him. Once there, she battles with her unsympathetic lecturer (Sam Neill), accusations of cheating and then illness. Parallel to her struggles we watch David's attempts at obtaining a love life. This could have been a lively and entertaining story, but, in this version at least, it's subdued and dismal, bar the occasional amusing moment.
