Although skilfully directed (by Stephen Gyllenhaal, who later made 'Paris Trout') and photographed (by Tom Burstyn), there isn't sufficient depth in the script of this film about a woman (Anne Archer) battling lymph gland cancer to enable it to escape a slightly dull, dispiriting `disease of the week' feel. Archer makes the central character wholly credible, but the teleplay doesn't give her the ammunition to make her sympathetic or likeable as well. Sam Neill competently plays the husband whose patience and understanding seem to be as bottomless as his bank account - somewhat strange as he's a carpenter who doesn't even appear to work for a profit.
