This absorbing, occasionally Hitchcock-style political thriller features a strong performance from Kelly McGillis as a girl who finds that the Senate witch-hunter (Mandy Patinkin) investigating her for Communist-affiliated activities is actually the man behind a sinister plot to introduce illegal Nazi refugees into America. George Delerue's Fifties TV-style gangster music comes in every time someone shady appears and the plot does lurch from one scarcely believable coincidence to another. But the film's saving grace is its look and period detail, and there's a cracking cliffhanger final reel, set in and around (and above) a huge railway station.
