Deacons for Defense

Fact-based civil rights drama set in Louisiana in 1965, starring Forest Whitaker, Jonathan Silverman and Ossie Davis. A black mill worker defends his community against the racist white police and Ku Klux Klan by organising his friends into a covert armed group.

Forest Whitaker puts in a moving performance as the devoted father and war veteran who becomes active in local civil rights campaigns. Putting his own life at risk, he forms Deacons for Defence, an armed group of black men aiming to defend their families from violent members of the Ku Klux Klan. An affecting true story co-starring Jonathan Silverman, Asam Weiner and Ossie Davis.
