Wimbledon

Sometimes captivating romantic comedy featuring an unlikely love affair between Kirsten Dunst's American tennis ace and over-the-hill Brit contender Paul Bettany. More of a sweet backhand than a 129mph smash, Wimbledon's the sort of movie you simply can't go wrong with.

Ignore the comments, the film is brilliant, funny, and is truly heartwarming. Dunst and Bettany's on-screen chemistry is sizzling, and this definitely is one film which you cannot afford to miss.

Ignore the sniping comments, Wimbledon is a highly enjoyable and original couple of hours spent in the cinema. Despite the obvious implausability of the plot (which hasn't hindered many other rom-coms one could mention), the film has likeable, attractive characters (especially the gorgeous Kirsten), some amusing self-deprecating humour and a sympathetically shot backdrop of the London/home counties area. Highly recommended.

Don't listen to criticisms that Paul Bettany is a poor second choice to Hugh Grant. True, Wimbledon was originally intended to be a vehicle for Hugh, but Bettany has more charm in his little finger than Hugh has managed to convey in his entire career with Working Title films. Bettany and Dunst's onscreen chemistry positively sizzles and while the script and plot have a lot of gaping holes, the charm and sweetness of the leading actors means that nothing is really left wanting. A perfect serve.
