Justin Cobb (Pucci) is a teenage outsider who has never quite shaken off the childhood habit of sucking his thumb.

It doesn't help that his parents are little more than children themselves - mom Audrey (Swinton) has a schoolgirl crush on TV star Benjamin Bratt.

Justin's habit becomes socially crippling when he finds himself fancying Rebecca (Kelli Garner) and he decides to seek help.

However, he doesn't turn to a shrink but to Keanu Reeves' orthodontist who helpfully supplies the advice "you don't need your thumb and your thumb doesn't need you." Thanks Keanu.

Fans of Napoleon Dynamite will revel in this gentle tale of a confused young man trying to make sense of the world...with the help of the drug Ritalin and the college debating society.

And it's hard not to take a shine to a movie where beatnik par excellence Keanu Reeves delivers the line: "I was lost in a cloud of hippy psychobabble."
