The Phantom of the Opera
Action maestro Joel Schumacher switches tempo to bring Andrew Lloyd Webber's crowd-pleasing coach party favourite to the big screen.
Very impressed with this film. I thought it was absolutely superb. It actually brought home the loneliness of the Phantom. Brilliant ending also.

This had to be the best musical adaptaion from stage to screen I have ever seen. I have seen the show on several occasions and I must say that I am just as entertained and excited by the movie adapataion. The score and signing is simply divine and the plot is the ultimate and unforgettable "Beauty and the Beast" scenario. Congratulations Andrew llyod Webber and Joel Schumacher.

I thought that the film was going to be boring but I thought it was absolutely brilliant, so much so that I went and bought the soundtrack and dvd.
Jean Harwood
I have seen the stage version three times and on ice once. This is the best version I have ever seen and could watch it over and over again.
Dan Lomas
This film deserved to get an Oscar. It's a million miles better than Chicago: Gerald Butler can sing better than Richard Gere.
Emma Smith
I am not the biggest Andrew Lloyd webber fan but I love this musical.
Alison Parker
A fantastic film, one I could watch again and again. The costumes are brilliant, the music sensational. A must for everyone to watch at least once.
Laura Simmons
I cannot say without a doubt that this film is the best film I have ever seen in my life. I disagree on all points with Tim, Butler's voice was very fine for the role, different from Wilson's voice so there is a contrast between the Phantom and Raoul. It is easy to see why Christine admires both. Butler enchanting, Rossum angelic and Wilson brilliant. The film is beautifully presented the costumes are superb and the music has been much inproved from the stage version.

Fantastic perfomances, great music and beautiful costumes that's all there in this movie and though I agree that Gerard Butler is a bit young to be Phantom still I thing he was absolutely enchanting, Emmy Rossum is true Christine with angelic and innocent look and voice and of course Patick Wilson is a great choice to play romantic Raoul, best movie I've ever seen and trust me I've seen many!

Phantom of the Opera is a great movie with a great cast! The biggining took my breath away. It was amazing! The special effects where amazing! The costume design was so detailed. This movie should have won the academy awards! Emmy Rossum shown while singing - she was great! The phantom hit the spot.
Gresia Cubangurl
That was the best classical movie I've ever seen, it has everything! Without mentioning the plot scenery was magnificent, the singing for once, did not bore me. I think it was absolutely amazing.
Mathilde N.
The most fantastic film I have ever seen!
Catrin Hopkins
Personally I wish we were able to give ten stars because I absolutely loved this movie! Only people without the slightest hint of imagination cannot enjoy this film!
Leeann Helminski
This movie swept me away. It was a visual masterpiece. I am gratefully haunted buy the music and the story. Thank you Mr. Schumacher for making this movie.
Julie Brunnock
I have never seen the stage production and my only concern is that if I ever do it will not live up to this mind blowingly amazing movie I saw. I did not want it to end and those 2 hrs 20 mins flew by. To see a film and still be thinking of it the following day really does make it one of the best films I've seen since Moulin Rouge. Simply Spectacular.

What are your reviewers thinking.....only 2 stars! This had both me and my 13 year old daughter gripped from start to finish. Appeals to young and not-quite-so-young (well, I'm not old yet!).
Claire Jenkins
Amazing, great casting, lives up to the stage version!
Sharon Howley
I was so impressed with this adaption that the very next day I booked tickets to take my son to see the show for himself. Minnie Driver is absolutely BRILLIANT and Jennifer Ellison looked so different I didn't realise it was her at first.
Carly Neil
I have no clue what these critics are thinking. I think this movie is an absolute masterpiece and deserves an Oscar for best movie.

This re-make is faultless and fantastic. Shame on you Tim Evans for your comment: "Andrew Lloyd Webber fans will be putting the baking on hold and freshening up that blue rinse for this".
June Cheeseman
I thought the film was a fantastic portrayal of the story. The music was breathtaking and the storyline so like the show.
Fiona Rooney
Amazing piece of film, I had seen Michael and Sarah, and wondered if this could come close. Well done - you have captured the passions of the best musical and put it into film for a further generation to enjoy. I loved it.

A triumphant transfer from Stage to Screen for Phantom. Only two minor criticisms: a) Jennifer Ellison's cleavage can be a little distracting in some scenes!
b) Gerald Butler is a bit too good looking to be the Phantom.
The opening scenes is breathtaking and with the sound of the overture reverberating around the cinema will make the hair on the back of your neck stand on end! Even if you're not a fan of musicals, this is well worth seeing for the sheer spectacle.

This project was bravely executed and deserves extreme praise for both the quality of the cast and the fantastic sets, catapulting the audience into Utopia. The switches in time added texture, especially the movement between colour and black-and-white, ensuring the ending to be even more poignant (I will give no more away). The score is obviously a major feature and was tackled well, so all the well-known songs have their place, albeit occasionally slightly cheesy. Overall a must-see!
Paul Mason
With unconvincing characters who are unsympathetic to their audience it is two hours of purgatory. Costumes excellent though.
David Robinson
As a fan of Lloyd Webber and his famous stage production of Phantom, you will be stunned by this magical recreation as a full specification Blockbuster film production. Chicago like, the music and staging come across (almost) better even than when performed live by Michael and Sarah at Her Majesty's. Rossum sings it just like Sarah Brightman (bringing tears to the eyes). If you have not seen a Webber Production you might be forgiven for not liking this. Shame on critics who don't understand.
Angela Duffy
Fantastic. I loved the stage show and I applaud the director and cast for sticking to the same line as Webber. I took my two daughters along aged 14 and 16. They both agree that it was wonderful and have asked to see it again.
When i handed out tissues before the film started i was given strange looks and asked what they was for. I told them that they would see. By the end of the film there was not a dry eye in the cinema. Bravo!

This is a long-awaited excellent rated musical and finally it has come out on film. Even though no-ones voice will ever match up to the standard of Micheal Crawford, Gerard Butler comes pretty close, even if he is a rather young person for the phantom. He does a brilliant job, and Raoul was a convincing typical 'in-love-hero' type. Emmy Rossum is a remarkable Christine Daae and plays the part well. It's a touching, well put across film that does the play justice. Well done all!
