Light-hearted pilot to a western series that came a year after James Garner's 'The New Maverick'. His character, Bret, is sadly but wisely no longer involved (although he appears fleetingly at the start) and the film instead tells the exploits of Ben, son of his British cousin Beau (Roger Moore in the original 'Maverick' series), played here by Charles Frank. It was a happy reunion for pretty co-star Susan Blanchard, who also worked for director Hy Averback on the comedy 'She's in the Army Now'. She was also married to star Frank in real life. Of all the impressive cast, though, it was only James Woods and Harry Dean Stanton who would move on to higher things, and the series itself lasted only one season.
