A return to old haunts for James Garner as he revisited the character that first brought him fame in this pilot for a TV series about the witty Western gambler Bret Maverick. The idea works quite well with Maverick, now middle-aged, still gambling but longing to settle down to a peaceful life that consistently slips through his fingers. At this rate the character could end up in a Western old folks' home by the year 2010.
