This comedy about a wife who returns from the dead (actually a desert island) was the film on which Marilyn Monroe was working just before she died.
It was re-modelled for Doris Day and right from the outset, she seems determined to make the star part her own creation, attacking it with tremendous verve, turning what could have been a routine sex comedy into a bright and amusing occasion.
James Garner and Polly Bergen are game co-stars, while, for an outstanding laugh, you'll long treasure the final courtroom scene in which Doris puts paid to wolf Chuck Connors in devastating fashion.
The plot had been filmed before, as My Favourite Wife, in 1940 and as Three for the Show (a musical) in 1955.
