Ask anyone that group in the 80's to name their favourite movies from that era, it's more than likely that The Goonies would be one of the first to spring to mind.

Set in a small U.S. town, The Goonies is a timeless tale of a group of kids that have one last day together before some 'evil' property developers force their parents to sell up and leave town for good.

Adventure

That morning, Mikey and the gang find a treasure map in his attic and so the kids head of for one last adventure that may well lead them to the very treasure that they need to save their homes.

The kids are a typical movie set, from the techno-geek to the fat kid that's the butt of the jokes. And they all blend perfectly. In fact, the relationship the kids had on set was so close that it shines through on screen. As a child, you wanted to be a goonie. You wanted to go on their adventure and that's what makes this movie so appealing.

Stars

The child-stars themselves were the cream off the crop at the time, Corey Feldman was on a roll that many adult stars would have killed for. But even though very few of the kids made it big in later years, the level of acting talent is very high. Nobody more so than Jerry O'Connell as the main comic relief. When the bad guys force him to tell everything, that's exactly what he does. Starting with the time he was sick at a cinema.

Richard Donner may be the director but there's no denying the influence of Spielberg in almost every scene, due to his work as writer and producer. It's Indiana Jones but for kids, with booby-traps a plenty and evil villains on their trail.

Masterpiece

It might not be a cinematic masterpiece, but it's a movie that hits all the right notes and has a sparkling script. Anyone who¿s seen The Goonies will feel the urge to quote it for years. It's a classic and anyone that tells you otherwise was born in the 60's.
