Intelligent if slightly stolid story about a man back from war service after being brainwashed by the enemy. William Holden, in his second Korean War film (following The Bridges at Toko-Ri) gives a gritty performance as the major determined to remove the stigma attached to his name. In a supporting role, James Garner makes his screen debut, in the days before TV's Maverick made him a star, and Virginia Leith, who had a too-brief career at 20th Century-Fox, is an attractive heroine. British title: Brink of Hell. A good all-round cast pulls this one back from the brink of dullness.
