A splendid idea for a horror film turns out to be ripe old hokum about long-dead leper sailors returning to avenge themselves on the town that robbed them of their gold 100 years ago. Director John Carpenter's approach is simplistic but still enjoyable and the actresses -- Adrienne Barbeau, Jamie Lee Curtis and her real-life mother, Janet Leigh -- are all worth watching.
