Even after 20 years The Road Warrior remains one of the most exhilarating action films ever to grace the screen.
The car chases are as exciting as any and, in terms of action, not many films have been able to equal The Road Warrior's buzz.
The world has been ravaged by a third world war and the outsider, Max Rockatansky (Gibson) is still wandering around the Australian wasteland, thousands of miles from civilisation, in search of gasoline.
He comes across a gyro pilot (Spence), who tells him of a place that's producing fuel, a commodity now more valuable than gold.
Max brings the pilot along with him and soon discovers that a large gang also wants the fuel and has been terrorising the small, gasoline-rich community relentlessly.
They are a mob of S&M leather-clad freaks determined to kill for the precious liquid, led by Humungus, a muscular man who wears a hockey mask to cover his face.
Max joins the innocent victims in their battle against the gang of pirates and tries to ensure the safekeeping of their fuel.
Having inspired countless rip-offs, The Road Warrior still remains the best of the bunch due to the great lead performance from Mel Gibson and the unrivalled car chases.
Respected as one of the most brilliant and utterly exciting action scenes in history, the final chase is especially memorable and proves Miller's craftsmanship as a director.
