Recklessly described as 'the greatest comedy of all time', this is an often very funny account of an epic car race from New York to Paris in 1908. Attractions include a mammoth saloon brawl, the 'biggest-ever' custard pie fight, the devilish dirigicycle and a polar bear in the villains' car. Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon have great fun as the nice-guy hero and scheming baddie, and Peter Falk is a scene-stealer as Lemmon's sidekick. Though Blake Edwards' direction leans to the obvious, this is a champagne comedy with some inspired slapstick.
