The son also rises, in this case the bold, bad Baron's second son Cedric Hardwicke, continuing his dad's pioneering work with the best of intentions, only to be sabotaged by evil Lionel Atwill and crazy Bela Lugosi, repeating his role from Son of Frankenstein. Lon Chaney Jr takes over from Boris Karloff as the Creature in this sadly underrated film - in our opinion the best of the Universal series with the exception of Bride of Frankenstein. Director Erle C Kenton who, ten years before had made the Charles Laughton horror classic, Island of Lost Souls, creates some really chilling moments, especially when Ygor is reborn within the Creature.
