Footloose

Kevin Bacon cuts loose as a fleet-footed Chicago kid who moves to the Midwest Bible Belt where rock 'n' roll is banned. According to fire'n'brimstone preacher John Lithgow, it's the Devil's music and anyone paying it any heed is in for eternal torment. With Kenny Loggins on the soundtrack, he may have a point... but it's still a great example of 80s teen cinema. Interestingly, the scenes where ungainly Willard learns how to move were added to the script because the late Chris Penn really could not dance.

Disco dancing dug back into the rock 'n' roll era for this silly old plot.

The story of a town that bans music goes back 50 years or more, although it wouldn't seem to have a place today outside farce or comic opera.

Young Ron (Kevin Bacon) finds himself a rebel without applause when he comes to a redneck community and soon falls foul of its local preacher (John Lithgow).

It's hard to believe today's average teenager will watch all this without falling about.

The performances smack of desperation.

Not a film to be taken seriously. One of the best examples of 80's cheese you'll ever see. You'll never respect Kevin Bacon again.
