This madcap, crazy comedy has shades of Heaven Can Wait, Here Comes Mr Jordan, the Topper films and even Tootsie, with its story of a wealthy woman's soul trapped by mistake after her death in the body of her oddball lawyer (Steve Martin). In the hands of Martin's ofttime collaborator and director Carl Reiner (they also made The Jerk, The Man With Two Brains and Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid together) the action moves swiftly through the usual uneasy blend of side-splitting visual gags and juvenile vulgarity. Martin, a comic actor who is at his best with physical comedy, has rarely been funnier on film. He delivers a tour-de-force performance as the legal eagle who has to battle constantly with the very vocal soul of crotchety millionairess Lily Tomlin, over everything from going to the toilet to sex. Although it seems unbearably silly at first, its sense of humour creeps up on you.
