The Kris Kristofferson season continues with this rambling, good-natured vehicle for Kristofferson and Willie Nelson, as two ageing country singers who split up, but get back together to outwit the sharks who have taken over Nelson's management. There's some brightly-written dialogue, especially for Rip Torn as an amiable crook, lots of songs and predictably off-centre treatment by director Alan Rudolph, who took over direction of the film after it had already been begun by other hands. Another director, Richard C Sarafian, plays a rare acting role as an oily entrepreneur called Rodeo Rocky.
