Unfortunately, like Jack Lemmon, fed on a diet of pasta by an unwanted wife, this black comedy gets progressively heavier. And if you had a wife as tiresome as Virna Lisi, you might want to drop her into a cement mixer too. Lemmon fell when a fire escape stunt went wrong but he hooked his arm on to a steel pipe, sustaining arm, shoulder and chest injuries -- and the film flopped too.
