Howard Deutch
Born: USA
The director and screenwriter John Hughes scored a hit with their debut feature Pretty in Pink starring Molly Ringwald.
The only son of music publisher Murray Deutch, Deutch began his career in the advertising department of United Artists Records.
As a partner in Kanew-Manger-Deutch, one of Hollywood's most successful movie trailer companies, he went on to direct music videos.
Promos included Flesh For Fantasy for Billy Idol and Billy Joel's Keeping The Faity and Deutch also found time to direct theatre.
After Pretty in Pink Deutch and producer/writer Hughes made Some Kind of Wonderful but had less success with The Great Outdoors.
Deutch then switched to TV, making an episode of Tales from the Crypt and the premiere of Melrose Place.
In 1992, Deutch was back with Article 99 (without Hughes) and Getting Even With Dad, starring Macauley Culkin and Ted Danson.
Deutch had more luck with the 1995 sequel Grumpier Old Men with Jack Lemmon and Walther Matthau.
In 2000, he made the football comedy The Replacements with Keanu Reeves and Gene Hackman and in 2004 took the reins of the sequel The Whole Ten Yards.
