The Presidio

Sean Connery is on gnarly form as a military policeman forced to team up with regular cop Mark Harmon to solve a murder. The two share a mutual and longstanding dislike which isn't helped when Harmon falls for the grizzly old bear's daughter (Meg Ryan). San Francisco's illustrious (but no longer operational) Presidio army base provides the backdrop to this slick crime thriller. Highlight? Big Sean beating up a thug with just his thumb.

The well-worn cop thriller theme of two opposites having to work together despite not liking each other is given a military/civilian twist in this well-paced but curiously uninvolving film.

A military policeman is shot while checking out a break-in at the officers' club and civilian cop Jay Austin (Harmon) is called in to investigate.

An ex-soldier, he has to team up with his old commanding officer Alan Caldwell (Connery). Austin was discharged from the service for trying to arrest an officer, who (surprise, surprise) is a suspect in the murder case.

And Caldwell doesn't know it but Austin's also dating his daughter (Ryan).

Spirited performances from Connery and Ryan lift this film slightly above the yawn level, but it's a struggle for both of them. Harmon, on the other hand, is a little bland and doesn't quite convince.
