One of Kenneth More's most colourful films: an exciting, old-fashioned action adventure set (mostly aboard a train) in 1905 India, and blazingly shot in unusually rich Eastman Colour by Oscar-winning cameraman Geoffrey Unsworth. It's adventure all the way as More and cool governess Lauren Bacall try to get a young prince to safety through 300 miles of rebel-held country. The story has several moments of excitement, although its impetus is damaged by repetition of dialogue and incident, and by scenes held too long. In support, there are personable supporting performances from Herbert Lom, Wilfrid Hyde White, and especially I S Johar as a feisty engineer. This was the year in which More was voted the most popular British star in a nationwide poll.
