This ecologically-themed Western was a swift follow-up to the sadistic A Man Called Horse for star Richard Harris and the same production team. Here the action revolves around a member of a trapping party left for dead after being mauled by a grizzly bear. He plots revenge on his fellow travellers and scavenges what food and weapons he can find from things he finds around him. Harris gives a decent enough performance but it is John Huston as the gruff, whimsical Captain Ahab-like expedition leader Capt Filimore Henry, complete with crumpled frock coat and crushed stove-pipe hat, who holds the rambling script together. The violence is less bloody and extreme than in A Man Called Horse, but the film is not suitable for younger children. Look out for supporting turns from Dennis Waterman and from James 'Beam Me Up Scotty' Doohan from the Star Trek series.
