The talents of comedian Richard Pryor are wasted in this supposedly madcap mixture of medical mayhem, as are those of director Michael Apted. Writers Denis and John Hamill are to blame for a script that even Pryor's comic gifts can't salvage. All in all, there's too much going on to too little comic effect. Apted (who most recently made Jodie Foster's new film Nell) hasn't had too many flops in a distinguished career, but this was certainly one of them.
