If you remember the 1947, movie of Uncle Silas with Jean Simmons as the innocent heroine... forget it! This is a gloriously full-blooded account of Sheridan Le Fanu's Victorian melodrama. Peter O'Toole gives his best as the villanous Uncle S. with Jane Lapotaire a hairs-breadth from going over the top as the governess.
