This well-written, occasionally funny but ultimately sad Australian film about old age gives Leo McKern a powerful central role which he lives up to by giving a remarkable performance. He plays Frank, a widower who retires at 70 and plans to move from Melbourne to Northern Queensland where he has bought a spectacular clifftop house. He persuades his close friend Frances (Julia Blake), also widowed to accompany him in his new life. But their new-found idyll is destroyed by Frank's deteriorating health. The well observed script was based by David Williamson on his own successful stage play. Sharp dialogue and fine acting all round make this an absorbing and affecting drama and director Carl Schultz has created a film that belies its stage origins.
