Nicely set, with a respectable cast, but ruined by its trite script, this earnest biopic never does justice to its fiery and glamorous subject, who plays (not very successfully) her own mother as well as herself in adulthood. Wooden performances from, among others, a miscast John Gavin (as Cary Grant) and Rip Torn (as Carlo Ponti) give the impression of a dubbed version of a foreign film. It goes on and on, too - but without the spark of life.
