Raised in Hawaii, Colorado and Miami, Vincent moved to New York in the late 1970s to pursue an acting career. He attended the American Stanislavski Theatre.
In 1987, Vincent gained 70 pounds for his portrayal as Private 'Gomer' Pyle in Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket, and romanced Lili Taylor a year later in Mystic Pizza.
He also turned heads as a bleach blond mechanic in Adventures in Babysitting.
The 1990s brought Vincent supporting roles in high-profile pictures: in Oliver Stone's JFK, Spike Lee's Malcolm X, and Tim Burton's Ed Wood.
But he was most memorable in Robert Altman's 1993 industry satire, The Player.
