Ranjit Chowdhry, making his debut as a scriptwriter, also stars in this tender story of an unlikely friendship set in Canada. He takes the role of a young Indian living in Canada whose stern uncle gets him a job looking after a crotchety old Jewish man, but suffers the wrath of his charge's family when he helps him learn to live again, including a visit to a Muslim transvestite party. The film attacks self-imposed racist tendencies and champions individual rights in an understated way. And in its conclusion, it is a welcome aberration from stylised Hollywood films with neat, upbeat endings.
