You can have a great cast (Donald Sutherland, Jack Warden, Sean Penn) and a good director (Louis Malle) and an idea that worked well before in 'Big Deal on Madonna Street' and still end up with a stinker. Supposedly an 'off-beat comedy caper', this misses every beat it can. Its criminals may be inept, but even so they're yards ahead of the script and direction! A gang of deadbeats decides to rob the big safe in the local pawn shop, owned by legendary meanie Jack Warden. That's it, really. With a tight script and a bit of pace, it could have been fun, guys. As it is, this must be one that everyone involved would prefer to forget. You would be wise to do the same.
