Sadly, this Columbo case isn't a patch on director Bernard Kowalski's previous addition to the successful series, Death Lends a Hand, and is a rare dud in the sleuth's crowded casebook. But it does contain a wonderfully laid back, hammy performance by Star Trek's William Shatner, as a ludicrous matinee idol actor who believes (mistakenly) that he's got away with murder. Shatner's Enterprise shipmate Walter Koenig is in it, too, as a police sergeant.
