Murder and infidelity are the two themes French director Claude Chabrol examines in this highly-coloured crime drama. Henri (Jacques Dacqmine) falls in love with his exotic neighbour (Antonella Lualdi) but his plans to run off with her are destroyed when she is found murdered. Compared to other French 'New Wave' films of the time, this is pretty mediocre, despite the presence of Jean-Paul Belmondo in a supporting role and Chabrol's first use of the garish colour that would become one of his trade marks.
