History has moved on since this cat-and-mouse thriller based on the Tom Clancy novel was made ¿ indeed some actors refused parts in this because of the way it depicted the Troubles ¿ but the movie still entertains. Ex-CIA analyst Jack Ryan (Harrison Ford) finds himself caught up in an IRA attempt to assassinate a member of the British Royal Family and shoots dead the brother of IRA fanatic Sean Miller (Sean Bean) ¿ who then makes life a living nightmare for Jack and his family. Ignore the plot holes as there are plenty of thrills, especially a chase in speeding boats. Ford is a sterling hero and Bean is every inch the merciless IRA man. Spot Samuel L Jackson's guest cameo as Robby. The second of the four screen adaptations of Clancy's bestselling Ryan novels.
