A superior TV movie made for a cable channel in the US. Louis Gossett, Jr (who won an Oscar as Richard Gere's barking drill sergeant in An Officer and a Gentleman) is a no-nonsense ex-military man who is hired to protect an upper West Side apartment building in Manhattan following a murder there. But the residents - in particular liberal-minded Martin Sheen - begin to suspect he may be the instigator of trouble there. Between them, these fine actors keep the disturbing undercurrents churning. The top-notch script, which includes strong language, violence and psychological brutality, is by Columbo creators and masters of the whodunit, Richard Levinson and William Link. Only the ending is vaguely disappointing.
