Patrick Bergin's took a break from starring in Hollywood blockbuster films such as Sleeping With the Enemy to star as Dr Frankenstein in this faithful rendition of the classic gothic horror tale. Randy Quaid (the pug-nosed brother of Dennis Quaid) stars as the monster that Frankenstein brings to life. Most of the filming took place in Poland except for the final scene, in which the Arctic was recreated back in the relative warmth of England at Pinewood Studios. During the filming, a sledge overturned and broke Bergin's arm, but he was able to continue shooting.
