A sweet-natured romantic comedy in the old style, with nice old-fashioned music by Miles Goodman, but just not quite enough bite to take it into the super-hit class.

Their competition for a leader column leads them to be paired up in opposition.
Newsprint leads to television, and in no time at all, they're debating topical subjects with each other on local TV.
Of course they also fall in love, but he's reluctant to commit, and that's where the two directors, Ken Kwapis and Marisa Silver, come in, each showing the course of the romance from their own sex's point of view.
Most of it works, although some of it is merely repetitive.
Perkins is adorable; Bacon, although miscast, gets by. Sharon Stone, Nathan Lane and Anthony LaPaglia fill out an attractive cast.
