This could have been called A Wedding if director Robert Altman hadn't already pinched the title as well as the theme. Bud Yorkin's comedy-drama is a much inferior version full of morose, unpleasant characters and with far too few smartly funny lines. And it seems to go on for hours. The one bright spot is a nine-year-old actress Mary Griffin, a relaxed child performer whose timing and natural delivery put some of her elders and betters here to shame. Jeff Daniels has the lead and the results don't say very much for his choice of scripts: he was playing far too many unsympathetic characters for his own good at this stage of his career.
