Although this 'odyssey' movie has a genuine feel for the American Midwest, it's sometimes a mighty dull film to be with. Michael Douglas has one of his first star roles as the hippie-style college professor who drops out of the Californian rat race and heads for Missouri. In a strong supporting cast (which features a very young Meg Foster, also at the beginning of her film career), the best performance comes from Joe Don Baker, as the rugged foreman of a work crew.
