This moody drama set around a seedy travelling carnival stars a 17-year-old Jodie Foster, playing a young girl who joins the group and has Gary Busey and Robbie Robertson vying in their own ways for her affections. The tale may be slight and have a few dull moments, but on the whole, this is an engrossing film. Robertson, formerly with legendary music group The Band, also produced the film. On this showing, it's surprising he has not produced more. Although no great actor, he's a hell of a lot better than many who have the cheek to put 'actor' on the part of their passport that says 'occupation'.
